Why would someone leave a helpless cat in a rusty closed birdcage to die?
Some people do not like cats, but why leave a helpless animal to die such
a cruel and slow death? If a person could do this to an animal what could
it do to a human being?
Thank goodness for a fisherman enjoying a day at Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee.
He noticed a rusty birdcage and investigated to find a helpless young long hair
yellow cat. With his voice shaking in disbelief he called Castaway Critters
Animal Rescue for help.
Two cat volunteers were at the shelter and immediately went into action to
meet the good samaritan and rush the cat to the vet.
These three human beings will never forget the helpless animal in the closed cage.
His eyes completely closed because of infection, drainage, and dirt. One eye,
covered with ulcers would have to be surgically removed. Raw skin around both eyes
so painful that the only sound from the cat was a cry when this area was touched with
a cotton ball. Upper respiratory problems as the result of being in the outside
elements for an unknown number of days. The feel of bones and seeing the animal
so weak/malnourished it did not move was heartbreaking.
Ricky, named after the fisherman that found him, recuperated at Castaway Critters.
Volunteers gave him lots of tender loving care and assisted him through his healing
process. He is now living in his forever loving home with a very nice couple in
Alpharetta, Georgia.
